Our education and awareness role

A key role of the National Consumer Agency (NCA) involves consumer education and awareness.

The NCA will focus on providing comprehensive awareness and education services as a means of empowering consumers to:

  • Make good purchasing decisions
  • Demand higher levels of service and innovation
  • Avoid dispute escalation or, in the event of unavoidable conflict
  • Understand the role of the Small Claims Court and the courts system in general in vindicating consumer rights

With enhanced knowledge, consumers should feel more in control of their purchasing decisions and be better able to identify products and services that most closely match their wants and needs in terms of quality, variety, service and value.

In parallel with consumer education activities, the Agency will also look to work with commercial bodies and representatives to improve information availability in relation to consumer law, voluntary compliance and best practice initiatives.

Corporate guides are available to businesses in this site's Business Zone, outlining the core aspects of legislation with which traders must comply, depending on their areas of activity.
