Branded grocery price survey

This survey of the price of branded grocery products in Ireland reports on a survey of prices collected in June 2011. It is the latest in a series of branded grocery price surveys conducted by the National Consumer Agency since June 2007.
For the present analysis a total of 146 branded products were contained in the list to be surveyed. Final baskets used for comparisons are dictated by availability of goods on the day of the survey and other operational considerations and on this occasion, identical baskets of 92 items were sourced between Tesco, Dunnes Stores, Superquinn and SuperValu.
Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by Shelfwatch Limited on behalf of the NCA. All prices were collected on 14 June 2011.
This is the latest in our product/service pricing and price transparency surveys, and follows reports on driving lesson fees, childcare charges, GPs' and dentists' fees, babycare product prices, personal care products / over the counter medicines, and domestic heating product prices (oil and wood pellets).
By providing actionable pricing information the NCA promotes competition and supports the operation of transparent, healthy markets for the benefit of consumers and businesses alike.
